Ampthill LitFest 2018

Date: Saturday 28th April 2018
Location: Ampthill Parkside Hall

To open our afternoon session we have a music extravaganza with Classic FM DJs John Suchet and Tim Lohoreau. This expert panel will be discussing their musically inspired books, chaired by local musician and musicologist, Rob Baker.

The afternoon continues with Secklow FM DJ and supporter of the Arts, Nancy Stevens interviewing New York Times best seller, Rowan Coleman and local author Ruth Hogan.  Ruth’s debut novel The Keeper of Lost Things has been a whirlwind success since its appearance on the Richard and Judy Book Club list.  Ruth Hogan will also be prize giving to our over 18 category winners at the Writers’ Competition Awards Ceremony.

The celebration of Bedfordshire authors continues into the late afternoon with Peter Laws, Church Minister and horror fanatic, who has recently published the second novel in the Matt Hunter series, soon to be followed by a third.  Peter has also written a non-fiction book investigating the reasons ‘we love monsters, ghosts, death and gore’, aptly titled, The Frighteners.

Continuing with non-fiction writing the final afternoon session features Luton born Safraz Manzoor.  Sarfraz is a journalist, broadcaster and documentary film maker and he will be sharing his experiences of writing for The Guardian, his documentaries for BBC Radio 4 and the 2007 publication of his memoir “Greetings from Bury Park”.

The day will conclude with Joanne Harris and her #Storytime band.

This musical story telling show combines original music, songs and stories as part of an exploration of different forms of narrative.

Joanne’s unique entertainment is sure to amuse and uplift.
